per mertesacker (arsenal)

mertesacker has yet to feature for the gunners this season after needing surgery as the result of the injury he suffered in a preseason game in france. though he is back in full training, arsenal manager arsene wenger has said mertesacker will need a couple more weeks to return to full match fitness, meaning he may not play for the first team before next year.

simone zaza (west ham united)

zaza has failed to impress at the london stadium after struggling to adjust to life in the premier league while on loan from juventus. west ham paid an initial fee to take zaza on loan from juventus with the deal automatically becoming a long-term one, at a cost of a further £20m, if he made 15 appearances for the club this season.

jamie vardy (leicester city)

the former non-league striker broke the premier league record by scoring in 11 consecutive matches last term, but went 16 games without a goal before ending his barren run with a hat-trick in the recent victory over manchester city. however, he will miss the boxing day fixture against everton for receiving a straight red card for a sliding challenge in leicester's stirring 2-2 fightback at stoke city.

james rodríguez (real madrid)

real madrid midfielder james rodriguez has become "offended" by his lack of action and simply wants to prove himself. given his ability, it's a surprise to see rodriguez so far down the pecking order at the santiago bernabeu, especially after his first year with the club was so impressive. the report suggested the colombia international is "desperate to escape the santiago bernabeu and play regular football。"
